Patrick Chanéac, born in 1961 in Lyon, is a self-taught painter and sculptor whose unique work invites active and participatory exploration. After studying biology then at the Ecole Normale with a view to becoming a teacher, Chanéac finally chose the path of art.

Since the 1990s, he has exhibited in France and Switzerland, developing a distinctive artistic language. His work explores the paving of the surface with geometric shapes, flat areas of color, imprints, graphics and symbols. Using acrylic paint and glycerophthalic lacquers, Chanéac applies these elements to wooden supports, structuring his creations with meticulous lines.

Sculptor and painter, he creates works in close collaboration, sharing materials and techniques. Beyond its artistic expression, Chanéac has been organizing a national literary short story competition for 23 years, demonstrating interdisciplinary collaboration.

Chanéac's sculptures and paintings require active participation from the viewer to discover the multiple possible entrances and appropriate his universe. His mobile or removable works reflect each in a unique way, offering a space to personalize, a balance to find, an approach to understand.

Chanéac positions himself as a teacher, proposing without imposing, offering without demanding, valuing the diversity of interpretations. The mysterious titles given to his works add a literary touch, inviting personal interpretation. These creations reveal a disturbing mystery behind the harmony of shapes and colors, inviting reflection on art, life and the world.

His art, both modern and anchored in thoughtful primitiveness, reveals a captivating ambivalence. Between modernity and reptilian anchoring, between formal rigor and raw emotion, Chanéac creates works of paradoxical intensity.

Emotion is also aroused by the sophisticated purity and absolute sobriety of his creations, mastering each space and mixing various materials. His paintings and sculptures reveal new aspects with each observation, leaving a lasting imprint.

Patrick Chanéac, an artist provocative of questions, is fully successful in his artistic journey, leaving his intriguing creations open to an infinite variety of interpretations.
